Rep. Earl Hilliard, Jr. Announces Public Health Care Forum

To Be Held Tuesday, May 25, at Avondale Library,  6-8 p.m.

Today Rep. Earl Hilliard, Jr. announced that he is sponsoring a public health care forum on the provisions of President Obama’s new health care now. The event will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at the Avondale Public Library. Rep. Hilliard said:

“The new health care law is a great step forward. However, if our objective is for everyone to have the same, high quality, affordable health care, the bill doesn’t cover everybody, isn’t the same for everybody, and may not be affordable for many people. Therefore, it’s a glass both half full and half empty. When I am elected, my job will be as an advocate for its improvement.”

J. Walden Retan, M.D., retired Birmingham physician and founder of Health Care for

Everyone – Alabama, will be the speaker and will provide a timetable for implementation of each new provision, some of which will begin in early June.

Rep. Earl Hilliard, Jr. Announces Community Health Care Fair

To Be Held on Saturday in Greene County

Rep. Earl Hilliard, Jr., is pleased to announce that a Community Health Care Fair will be held on Saturday, May 15, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mt. Hebron, AL, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

“Mrs. Pinnia Hines, R.N., is the event organizer. I thank her and the Greene County volunteers who have planned this important event.

The Community Health Care Fair will offer free blood pressure screening, cholesterol screening, HIV, screening, blood glucose testing, and hearing screening. The Fair will provide food and award door prizes, as well as a Moon Walk for children.

This year, we have asked Dr. J. Walden Retan, M.D., to hold informal discussions about the provisions of President Obama’s new health care law and what they mean for the public at large. These new provisions will be implemented on a schedule, and Dr. Retan will provide it to those who attend the Fair.  Dr. Retan is the founder of Healthcare for Everyone – Alabama, an organization dedicated to health care reforms that benefit the public interest.

I urge you to attend this important health care event and learn more about your health and how this new law affects your care. Hilliard for Congress volunteers will be there to assist you.”

Trussville, AL – The National Association of Letter Carriers, Vulcan Branch 530, has unanimously endorsed Rep. Hilliard in the race for the open seat in Alabama’s 7^th Congressional District.

Speaking on behalf of the 800 Vulcan Branch members, Local 530 President, Antonia Shields, praised Rep. Hilliard’s commitment to preserving a quality standard of life and protecting jobs. “There are some serious budget issues facing the United States Postal Service and we know Rep.
