Christian Coalition Recognizes Rep. Hilliard’s NAACP Outstanding Father Award
“In a time when the world around us challenges our commitment to our families and children on an almost daily basis, we are more than pleased to recognize Rep. Earl Hilliard Jr. for his commitment to fatherhood. Recently, Earl was awarded the NAACP Outstanding Father Award. The award was given during the 100th Birthday Celebration of the Metro Birmingham Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The theme was Salute to Outstanding Fathers and Men of Great Faith.
Rep. Hilliard said that receiving the award was a great honor. ‘The NAACP is the nation’s oldest, largest and most widely recognized grassroots–based civil rights organization. With this being the month that’s set aside to honor men, I am just humbled to be a recipient of this honor,’ said Hilliard.
The NAACP Outstanding Father award is given based on community service and outstanding contributions to the community at-large.
Hilliard’s commitment to family values reveals itself through his activities. He served as the title sponsor for ‘Girls Day Inn‘ in conjunction with Aids Alabama, Girl’s Inc. and Sisterbration. An all day empowerment day conference, ‘Girls Day Inn‘ was the follow-up event to ‘Girls Night Out,’ an event that brought hundreds of girls to the Birmingham Art Museum.
Hilliard has made a difference for Alabama’s children as a legislator as well. During the past legislative session, he helped pass the crucial School Safety Plan Bill, which helps to make our schools and our children safer.
Because of these and other efforts, Representative Earl Hilliard Jr. has made himself an example of what fatherhood should encompass. We wish him the warmest of congrats.”
